The Chagford & District Business Association held the official launch of their new destination website at a lunchtime reception hosted by world-renowned Gidleigh Park and supported by culinary superstar Michael Caines and Chagford-based Helpful Holidays. Both Michael Caines and Neil Tappenden of Visit Chagford spoke at the event. The new destination website was supported by West Devon Borough Council.

Chagford is a beautiful Stannary Town on the edge of Dartmoor but it's also a powerhouse of history, legend, creative activities, art galleries, delightful independent shops and quirky attractions like the river-fed 'wild' swimming pool.

Plus it has truly remarkable foodie credentials with world-famous Gidleigh Park as well as a great selection of historic hostelries, cafes and delicatessens. It really is 'The Jewel of Dartmoor.'

Chagford's historic market square contains a large number of beautifully preserved 15th and 16th century buildings; the ghost of the 'Chagford Cavalier' provides local hauntings and the 'Real Lorna Doone', Mary Whiddon, said to have inspired R.D. Blackmore, lived here. The place is full of local legend. In fact its special character and location has attracted many artists, celebrities and other fascinating folk to settle here.
