Chagford's Globe Hotel is a Community Star

"Fun, friendly, caring, buzzing, safe" is how owners of the Globe Inn, in the heart of beautiful Chagford, describe their community.

In fact, Graham Flight and Mary French, who run The Globe Inn, do so much for their spectacularly beautiful Dartmoor Stannary town, they have recently been awarded South West champion in the Enterprise Community Hero Awards.

A stunningly beautiful, historic hotel in a lovely central location opposite the ancient parish church of St Michael's with its glorious view across Dartmoor, the Globe offers some wonderful surprises.  The Inn has retained its historic features whilst providing seven delightfully contemporary bedrooms and has a cinema which Mary and Graham put to good use organising a hugely successful Film Festival which runs for six days every September.

The first Festival was so popular, it expanded into the village hall and the church and also had a world premiere of "The Long March to Freedom", which attracted national press coverage and later screened on television.  Oscar-winning producer Gareth Unwin attended the final night when "The King's Speech" was shown.

Developing the strong community theme, the Globe's charismatic owners set about organising monthly events such as The Cinema Club, Quiz Night and much more.  Community groups are regularly invited to use the Globe's function room and these generous touches help to create a warm, friendly feel throughout Chagford which brushes off on visitors who often deem the town the friendliest they have visited.

Some other examples of how far the caring community spirit of Chagford that Graham and Mary exemplify goes include organising a food collection for workers when a major business in nearby Okehampton closed as well as lots of other regular community work.

Graham is also a committee member of the local conservation group, who work tirelessly on projects through the town and their caring approach really shows in this beautiful Dartmoor town.  This is Dartmoor, so snow can arrive in the winter and so when it did, Mary and Graham cheerfully organised a snow-clearing party to clear the premises around the historic town square.

No wonder, Chagford is so popular with visitors who enjoy the wonderful community spirit, warmth and friendliness of the place with its independent shops, tearooms, top quality pubs and restaurants and much more.
