Macmillan Gidleigh Opera has announced its line up of star performers for the 17 June at Gidleigh Park Hotel. The evening gala event is in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

This exclusive gala evening will feature Highlights from the Opera. Our young stars of the future are from the National Opera Studio in London and are destined to go on to become well-known names in operatic circles
world-wide.

Ticket sales are limited and hospitality will include wine and canapés to be enjoyed under canvas before the commencement of the main event. A wine bar will be offering additional drinks refreshments for purchase during the interval.

As a very special indulgence picnics will be available to purchase - 'Luxury' or 'Summer Supper'. In addition, there will be the opportunity to hire a private dining tent. This can be for a private party or for companies who may wish to entertain a small groups of clients.

Fresh faces with exceptional voices from the National Opera Studio (NOS) London, chosen by, for example, Covent Garden and Glyndebourne as their next generation of soloists, will sing highlights from the opera.

American soprano Sophia Troncoso graduated with distinction from the Royal Academy of Music and has toured with Scottish Opera. Glasgow-born mezzo-soprano Penelope Cousland has won numerous scholarships and studied at the RNCM. Yorkshireman and tenor Joseph Doody, as well as an operatic soloist, is a keen consort singer. Baritone Christopher Cull is a BBC / Arts Council of Northern Ireland Young Musician's Platform winner.

The singers will be accompanied on stage by NOS virtuoso pianist repetiteur, Killian Farrell, a first-class honours graduate of Trinity College Dublin.

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, who conducts Master Classes with the young singers and is herself an alumni of NOS, says “The work achieved here is extremely valuable and gives a unique groundwork for the young singers of the future”.

The evening will be presented on stage by BBC Radio 4 'Any Questions?' host and Devon resident, Jonathan Dimbleby.

During the interval, Dartmoor Auctions Ltd will be in action selling lots for Macmillan. The full list is to be published shortly.

The evening will conclude with a spectacular display of fireworks above Gidleigh Park Hotel.

Tickets are available at £95 from Exeter Northcott Theatre (01392 726363). These include a glass of wine, canapés, and a seat at the evening gala. Dress code is formal.
